Spay/neuter help for low-income pet owners

Do you know someone who has a dog or cat but can't afford to get them spayed or neutered? The city of Wichita, working with Spay-Neuter Kansas and the Kansas Humane Society, is using federal grant money to help low-income residents get their pets altered, so they will stop reproducing and help with the problem of pet overpopulation. Spay-Neuter Kansas, the low-cost clinic at 319 S. Hydraulic, is in desperate need of small crates for cats. Many people who bring cats in to the clinic to be altered cannot afford a crate, and at least two cats have escaped before or after surgery because they weren't secured in a crate. Spay Day USA is Feb. 24, and veterinarians are taking reservations now to schedule reduced-cost spay and neuter surgeries for dogs and cats on that date.
Some places, like Goddard Veterinary Clinic (316-794-8022) and Nielsen Animal Clinic in Andover (316-733-2449) are offering discounted surgeries throughout the month of February.
