Spay/neuter help for low-income pet owners

Do you know someone who has a dog or cat but can't afford to get them spayed or neutered? The city of Wichita, working with Spay-Neuter Kansas and the Kansas Humane Society, is using federal grant money to help low-income residents get their pets altered, so they will stop reproducing and help with the problem of pet overpopulation. Many people who bring cats in to the clinic to be altered cannot afford a crate, and at least two cats have escaped before or after surgery because they weren't secured in a crate. Spay Day USA is Feb. 24, and veterinarians are taking reservations now to schedule reduced-cost spay and neuter surgeries for dogs and cats on that date.

Some places, like Goddard Veterinary Clinic (316-794-8022) and Nielsen Animal Clinic in Andover (316-733-2449) are offering discounted surgeries throughout the month of February.
