Convenia

It's an injectable antibiotic that last for up to two weeks. It's originally for skin infections, but shelters have been using it to successfully treat URI and some others.

I just wanted to share because I know there are probably some people taking care of feral cats that would be quite happy to hear about it. It's not easy to give ferals oral antibiotics!

The few vets I called in Wichita didn't have it though, as I think it's pretty new. But google it! Tell your vet about it.

Convenia is an injectable cephalsporin antibiotic that can last up 14 days when given to dogs and cats. It can be repeated in 2 weeks if necessary. It is a bit expensive as it costs about twice the price (sometimes more) than equivelant oral antibiotics. However, it is often well worth the price verses pilling your pet and wondering if it really got the medication. Not all veterinarians choose to carry it because of its high cost and the need to use the entire multi-dose bottle within a short period of time. I found many dog and cat owners were happy to pay a little extra not to have to give oral medications. There are several veterinarians in the Wichita area using Convenia.
