The votes have been counted and the winner of the beautiful cat contest is: Diggy. Kasey Candea-Kromm of Wichita is a dog owner but received the most votes for her photo of Diggy, her best friend’s cat. Candea-Kromm’s photo of Diggy relaxing in a windowsill won with 23 percent of 816 votes cast.

Sad news

I have some very sad news to report. Laddie, the greyhound that had been missing since Dec. 23, was found dead Thursday afternoon near Oliver and 31st Street South. He had been hit by a car.
Owner Cynthia Slater says she wants to thank all the people who helped look for Laddie "and cared about him being lost."
Our sympathies go out to Cynthia and her daughter.

Vera Dennen painted this portrait of a dog in 2004 or 2005 and is looking for the dog's owner.
Mystery solved! Vera Dennen says she heard from the dog's owner, who was thrilled to see news about the painting. "He said I could not have made his Christmas any more special if I had tried," Dennen said.
The dog's name was Fiasco, and he died in 2007. The owner plans to buy the painting, with the proceeds going to a dalmatian rescue group, savethedals.org.
