Six pleading eyes spark determination!
From Caring Hands Humane's blog 6 days ago | 144 Views
Rick, Papa and Shasta
When I came to work this morning, it seemed like a typical Wednesday. Half way through the week, a little sleepy, but not quite as sleepy as a Thursday. Definitely not the excitement Friday brings and hopefully not another Monday. You know the feeling, a typical Wednesday. And then I went out to the ‘big dog kennels’. So many strays, unclaimed loved ones and owner surrenders. Their pleading eyes and whimpering cries is all the motivation it takes for me. A deep breath in, I went back to my desk to see how I could help find these beautiful dogs some wonderful homes!
Near my desk were garage sale donations. I knew immediately where they had come from. I grabbed the sweatshirt on the top of the pile and headed out to Rick, Papa and Shasta. That sweatshirt belonged to their human Momma, who passed away suddenly only a few days ago. There they sat in their kennel, all 3 together to help maintain their stress level from all the sudden changes. I gave them the sweatshirt in hopes that the mere scent of their Momma would take them back in time to normalcy and harmony.
I sat with them, shed a few tears for (with?) them and scratched them. Papa and Rick climbed eloquently into my lap and lavished me with kisses, almost as if to reassure me that they ARE ok and that they WILL be ok. Dogs’ intuition is so much more precise than us humans because at this point I don’t know if they will find a home, but I am so very hopeful. Beyond hopeful I presume…overly determined is more like it. But they seemed to know that all is well. Hakuna Matata.
Such beautiful and loving fur-babies, it’s my goal to find them their home ASAP and get them hurriedly back on their path to normalcy. We can all relate as we gain years in our lives, all of us can imagine how a situation such as Rick, Papa and Shasta’s will affect us. Where will our pets go when we pass? Will they be cared for and loved? Will they get to stay with our loved ones? Will our pack stay together? So many questions provoke so many of us to add them to our will. A very good plan indeed.
Rick, Papa and Shasta weren’t part of a plan due to the unexpectedness of life. Thankfully, they have come to us for help in finding them a home. I urge you, if you know of anyone that might be interested in some house trained lap buddies, PLEASE contact us today!! I understand they may not all be able to go to the same home, due to city regulations in some areas. Finding them a loving home as wonderful as the one they came from is their plan. And it’s my will to help them.
Papa is a 6 year old neutered male Shih Tzu.
Rick is a 1 year old soon-to-be-neutered male Shih Tzu.
Shasta is a 6 year old (maybe older) spayed female Shepherd mix.

Molly's Final Request
From Caring Hands Humane's blog 20 days ago | 304 Views
Molly in her 'good ole days' drinking from the fountain in our court yard at Caring Hands.
As you have probably heard, Molly passed away just after her 23rd birthday. Not at all an easy thing to adjust to around here. We all miss her scratchy meow and loving head rubs. Yep, she definitely lead a great life here with us at Caring Hands Humane Society.
For those of you that aren't familiar with Molly, she was, and will always be, our best friend at Caring Hands. She was the door greeter and leg rubber. Everyone loved Molly. She was always happy, purring and ready for love. I have only been at Caring Hands for 3 years, so my time with her was short in comparison with Mike, Kayla and Kevin, who have both been here about 10 years. Still, not even half of her life! I watched Molly go from old to very very old. I watched her running trot become a painful limp. I listened to her scratchy meow become a low mew. I watched as she so happily stole food from other cats with her paws through the bars to sometimes not wanting to eat to soemtimes forgetting that she ate. I watched as she became less immune to the illnesses that present themselves here at times. Yes, I watched as she aged right before my very eyes. It wasn't easy for me, as I'm sure it wasn't easy for any of us who worked here. And then there is you. You graciously came through the door to see your dear Molly and she wasn't here one day. We know how you feel because we feel it, too.
Her memory can AND WILL go on, with your help.
Before she passed, she made one final plea. She asked that on her birthday, everyone donate to Caring Hands in honor of her memory to help save the animals in our care. We have grouped together to see to it that we honor her wish.
It was such a simple request. She asked that the animals that come in needing emergency and immediate veterinary care be able to be cared for in ways that could potentially save their life. Ways that have been available to her all these past 23 years, ways that we are saving Titan's hip, ways that we have saved Moose, the Great Pyrenese and the many many others.
By donating to Tuffy's Fund, you are literally SAVING THE LIVES of animals that might otherwise have passed over the Rainbow Bridge. Molly urges you to please think of those animals when your birthday comes about this year and donate in her honor.

Boggie Needs a Home!
From Kansas Humane Society's blog 27 days ago | 197 Views
She smiles too!
Boggie, a 4-year-old German Shorthaired Pointer, is a very sweet dog who has had a long stay at the shelter. This adorable gal came to us back in December on her fourth birthday. Boggie is a very active girl who has been a mostly outside dog. You can see it in her eyes, all she wants is to be loved and have a family who has enough time to devote to her. She’s full of energy but has even more love to offer a family. She would ideally like to have a large backyard, lots of toys and a family to call her own. Because of her energy level and genuine love and excitement for life, she would probably do best in a home with older kids who can keep up with her. She loves to play and loves her treats even more, so come stocked with some tasty goodness and she’s your new best friend! She is part of the Lonely Hearts Club, so her adoption fee is discounted to $75. She’s also special, so if you’re interested in adopting her, please contact the adoption department to learn why!

Are you talkin' to ME??
From Caring Hands Humane's blog 5 weeks ago | 180 Views
That's the look she gives us anyway!
Meet Jasmine...our floater kitty. Jasmine enjoys the company of humans so much that she has earned her right to wander the halls as she searches for her newst adopters, instead of being confined to one designated area.
Some of her hobbies include-helping to write work related emails, playing with removable USB lanyards, knocking over pen cups to retrieve those fantastic paper clips with her claws so she can toss them in the air, attacking the fluffy cat toys stashed in desks, modeling like a super model, meowing when she is lonely, sleeping on your lap or shoulders, licking your eyebrows or hair line and she believes that pony tails are made for her batting pleasure.
Some of her dislikes are-new dogs, big dogs, new cats and being alone for long periods.
A home she would prefer-Another cat that is laidback, ignoring and playful. Another dog?--Only if he HAS to be there. A human companion at all times (she prefers) and many mental activities and things for her to hunt, search, seek and find. She has quite an active imagination and loves to use it! Into everything? Why, yes she is!!
Think you have the perfect lifestyle and are the perfect home for her? Come on and meet her today! She won't let you forget her.

Are you forgetting someone??
From Caring Hands Humane's blog 5 weeks ago | 118 Views
A walk by Connie's kennel and you may find yourself thinking, 'This dog is a bit nuts!' When in fact, she's just THAT HAPPY!! She has a natural excitement to her that she isn't always sure how to contain to give that 'adopt me' appeal that so many others have. So a walk by Connie's kennel is just that, a walk on by...
No stop to say, "Hello!" as she does her best circle jumps to wave down your attention. No fingers placed through the fencing to allow her to lick a 'please pick me.' And no leash in hand to tell her, "Yes, I'll give you a chance outside of your kennel to win me over."
So there Connie sits...
Feeling ignored, feeling sad and ironically feeling a ton of happiness! Yes, even though she has been rejected for the 7 months she has been in Caring Hands, she still keeps a smile on her pretty black face. She still anticipates a new home out of each new passerby with the same enthusiasm that she had on her very 1st day here.
Maybe the next time you walk by her, you will be the one with the pause, the finger through the cage and the leash in hand.
And just maybe, she will be the one to escort you home.
