When Wichita pet owners dress their pets for Halloween, they go all out — going beyond the usual witch, ghost and jack-o’-lantern costumes.

A frightful amount of imagination was shown in the more than 100 entries The Eagle and Wichita Paws received in our first-ever Howl-o-ween pet photo contest.

Pirates were a popular costume this year, as were beetles, bumblebees, brides and ballerinas (how do you get a tutu on a cat?).

Food themes went beyond pumpkins, with chow hounds made up to look like hot dogs, tacos, a banana split, grapes and a “cereal” killer.

Costumes included cowboys, police officers, soldiers, athletes, superheroes and convicts — even a dog portraying celebrity bad girl Lindsay Lohan in a mug shot.

All of the photos were a hoot, and now it’s your turn to vote for one of these 16 finalists.

To vote for your favorite photo, click on the link below. (One vote per person, please.) Deadline for votes is 11 p.m. Monday.

The winning photo will be featured in The Eagle on Nov. 13, and the photographer will receive a $50 gift card to a pet store.

Thanks to everyone who entered.
