We Like Ike

I so wish I would've brought my camera during the run. I can't believe I don't have a picture to remember this.
Hurricane Ike: bad for Wichita, good for King and Reuben.
Ike and its aftermath hit Wichita hard. Several Wichitans were forced out of their homes by the torrential rainfall and are still dealing with the effects of a flood damage. The boys at my house; however, cherished every bit. Aside from the thunder and lightning that haunts Reub, storms of this caliber produce their very favorite toy: puddles.
I take a heaping load of grief from our neighbors who delight in watching the boys and I run each evening after work. More than once they've joined forces to knock me flat on my face. This weekend, though, the Ike puddles made every dog-induced trip worthwhile.
We typically take a route through a nearby golf course. The hills and valleys of the course doubled as tiny lakes after Ike's visit. Without a golfer in sight, I let the boys off the leash and watched the show.
The further we went, the more puddles there were. They raced from pond to pond, periodically stopping to bury their faces in the water in some attempt at drinking. Near the end of our run, we hit the motherload. A steep hill coupled with a valley produced a body of water literally deep enough for King--the Golden Retriever--to swim in.
I honestly do feel guilty for throughly enjoying the heavy rains that brought so many people displeasure last weekend--but I promise I wasn't the only one having a great time.

Don't feel bad about that. It's good that someone can find joy in a situation that's troubling. The old saying every cloud has a silver lining, or how every it goes, is true. We can find good in everything, if we look hard enough. Nothing wrong with that.Posted 355 days ago
